New HDTV or Frostbite?

November 30, 2010 Leave a comment

I swear, I was itching for that 40 inch Westinghouse tv from Target.  3am wake up call, 4am doors open, wait for a few hours, don’t get trampled, and take home my brand new tv for $298.  It sounded so good in my head.  Sadly as the hours ticked by and more news reports came in, it was more of a dream…  Southern California was rocked by record low temperatures.  One reporter even joked, we’re getting Chicago type weather.  They showed the Black Friday shoppers lined up in tents with heaters, looking like Eskimos.  Half I was encouraged to join in on the madness and the other half questioned, do I really want to get frostbite?  I must be getting older as the frostbite side of the brain won…  Did anyone get a great Black Friday deal?

Free Cash from Kohl’s?!?!

I haven’t shopped at Kohl’s for awhile, but somehow they pulled me back in with their clever mailers enticing me with 15, 20, or 30 percent off.  Once inside, I’m drawn to the super clearance racks.  How can they sell things for 80% off?!?!  Then I thought, wow, imagine the mark up if they can sell it for 80 percent off, hmmmm.

I was already pretty stoked about my bounty when the cash register rung up more discounts.  Cha-ching!  Massive savings applied due to the sales rack items, apply the additional mailer discount, and since I spent more than $50, I got Kohl’s cash, too!  The following week I can take off an additional twenty bucks on my total purchase.  I’ve died and gone to shopper’s heaven.

Turning into a Sassy City Chick?!?!

Sassy City Chick

I know, I know.  The Sassy City Chick Fashion Bash is geared toward women, but what’s wrong with expanding my horizons?  Lines of women waited eagerly to get their hands on some great deals.  Up and coming fashionistas were trying to get their name out and increase their client base. As for me, I have always enjoyed the humanity of it all.  Women in shopper’s heaven, buzzing around from booth to booth.  A DJ pumping the latest tunes, samples of tequila, margaritas, and champagne.

The energy was electric.  This all took place at the Petersen automotive museum.  Chevrolet was showing off their latest models, driving guests around the block, and buttering us up with free meals from Carl’s Jr.  It was a fun night.  Vendors were claiming their goods were as much as 80% off of Nordstrom prices!  Between all the styling shirts as low as $2, costume jewelry for $10, bags for $49, I am slowly turning into a woman.

Giddy like a Schoolgirl

Passing through my local shopping center, I went into Macy’s.  It was packed, mostly with women, with shoppers grabbing anything they could find during Macy’s One Day Sale.  Out of curiosity, I hit the men’s section to see what I could see.  There were some amazing steals.  Shirts, shorts, pants, you name it.  I found a ton of shorts and a few shirts.  I was giddy like a schoolgirl jumping from rack to rack, scanning the tags to see how low they could go.  75% off original price, $4.99 specials, how can Macy’s sell high quality shirts for $4.99 and shorts for $7.50 is beyond me.  I have a feeling, Macy’s is doing just fine.   After all was said and done, I now kind of understand why girls go so gah gah over shopping.  If you’re looking to save a few bucks, update your wardrobe, and get a little giddy, make sure you visit Macy’s during their next One Day Sale.  Be prepared to fight through some crowds and stand in long lines.  But trust me, it will be worth it.
