Trafalgar Tours

Jet lag may hit me tomorrow, but it won’t take away the amazing tour I had for the past eight days.  I had won a European Traveler tour from Trafalgar and boy was it an awesome trip.  The itinerary was amazing, the tour director was knowledgable and entertaining, the hotels were terrific, the coach was comfortable, the food was delicious, the history, the structures, and the grandeur.  The list goes on and on.  For great tours through Europe with very experienced tour directors along with safe, stress free sight-seeing, check out Trafalgar.  They are top-notch.  I hope to have details and pictures real soon so you can see for yourself.

No Rest for the Wicked

During my dash through the Big Apple, I did pretty good damage utilizing PATH one way tickets, buses, and NJ Transit rails.  However, if I had to do it over again, I would have used PATH day and week passes.  I missed a few trains and wasted some precious time waiting in line to buy tickets.  I would have paid more upfront, but having an unlimited pass to travel through the city would have freed me and pushed me to possibly explore more.  To handle the city that never sleeps, you need everything at your full disposal, especially public transportation.

Continental Airlines

Feeling spontaneous, I felt like visiting the East Side for a few days.  If you want a rush while also saving some airfare, try flying stand by.  (I must add, my traveling companion works at an airline making the savings possible.)  Talk about living dangerously and flying by the seat of your pants.  I arrived at the gate about an hour and a half to get a jump on the competition.  Sadly my efforts were in vain as no one was working behind the counter.  Forty five minutes before flight time, desk workers finally showed up.  My early place in line gave me no added benefit.  Families, friends, other airline workers, get first priority.  If there’s anything left, then we can fight over scraps.  She said they would be printing a list real soon.

The moment of truth, my name showed up in the middle of the list.  One bullet dodged and a few more to go.  My guess is there is still no guarantee that I made it.  It was a pretty full flight.  They were packing us like sardines and one customer threw a fit when she was asked to check in her small roller.  Thankfully, no fisticuffs or mace was needed.  After a few tense minutes, I was the third name called to come up to the counter.  I made it.  New York, here I come!  Cue Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, and the Empire State of Mind!

Inspired by my recent trip through Asia where I mainly used their rail systems to get around, I wanted to give my own rail system a try.  Zipping around conveniently from hot spot to hot spot really made an impression on me.  When I finally gave LA Metro a try, I was pleasantly surprised!  It may not be as clean or as economical as Asian rail systems, but it gets the job done.  I would normally drive for an hour into downtown LA and spend about eight dollars for parking.  Using the rail, I have a stress free commute.  I can take phone meetings, check emails, meditate, or even take short naps all for six dollars (all day pass).  Besides that, I am going green and saving the planet in my own little way.  Why not go Metro, too?
